The British Gorilla Foundation is pleased to announce that Old Bob, Britain’s oldest gorilla, continues to be in excellent health and though we can’t be sure, we think he knows exactly when his birthday is and is looking forward to his celebrations!
Old Bob remains the 3rd oldest living gorilla in the world and is believed to be the world’s oldest living male gorilla. In March, we opened an extension to our Gorilla Garden, in preparation for the two new gorillas arriving in the coming weeks, and Old Bob loved exploring the new sections of his habitat.
Old Bob has always been known as an extremely curious and inquisitive gorilla, so we have always ensured that he has been given a habitat that meets his needs. We have imported more than 100 jungle plants to him feel at home and have introduced several species that he would have remember from his home. The British Gorilla Foundation is home to the 2nd largest collection of gorillas in the British Isles and one of the largest in the world.
We are committed to providing a home for gorillas where they can relax, play and learn and where members of the public can see then, from a distance, in their natural habaitat. As many of our gorillas were either kept in zoos or owned by private collectors, they tend to be very friendly towards humans, but one day we wish to reintroduce younger gorillas to the wild, so we can contribute to saving these remarkable animals.
We look forward to Old Bob’s 60th birthday as an opportunity to continue our mission and educate the public about gorillas, so we will be inviting 20 of our members who respond to our invitation to attend his birthday party! Don’t forget to reply to our email and we hope to see you soon!
